DJtunez.net Interviews Trance DJ/Producer Randy Boyer
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009Hey there Randy! So tell us what have you been up to lately, and what can we expect from you in the near future?
Well I have been working extremely hard the past few months finishing up a lot of remixes and original productions as well. I just did a remix for Kiss Me Here by Tritonal which is coming out soon on Spundae Music and I also have a remix of Solarstone’s Slave that is out on Solaris. I have been working on launching my own label with my good friend,Darude. This is taking a lot of work in terms of getting everything ready but we are really excited about the future.
What would you say was your first big break in the music scene?
As far as breaks go, I dont’t believe I had any. I worked extremely hard to get where I am right now, and everything that I have accomplished, I made happen by my persistence, integrity and, hard work. Of course there have been people who have been extremely helpful in my career which I have always been so appreciative of.
Tell us, Since getting into the music business, what has been your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was when Armin Van Buuren emailed me in 2004 the night after I have him ‘CQ (Seek You)’ – EnMass. He said he loved the song, played it that night in Ibiza and the crowd went nuts. He wanted to sign it and so EnMass was born
Your partner from EnMass,Eric Tadla, passed away in 2008. Was that one of the toughest things you’ve dealt with, in your music career? How has he influenced your music? You two made amazing music together!
Yes, There is no comparison to losing not only a production partner but a best friend as well. I really hope no one ever has to deal with it. I really learned a lot from him in the studio. I have been saying that I will always keep his influence and memory alive thoughout my music career and I have recently decided that I am going to be titling my new lavel ‘EnMass Music’.
Growing up, what were some of you ambitions? Did you always know you wanted to be in the music scene? What drew you to this and more particularly, this music?
I have always been a competitive person and music lover. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with music until I was 18 and started going out to clubs. Then I fell in love with it, and realized that’s what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I have always been a fan of EDM music from the very beginning of my career, it was my favorite to play, because it always had great stories.
Who are some of your favorite artists in electronic music? Any particular tracks you can’t stop listening to?
I listen to a lot of music, and to be quite honest when I listen to music it is not always EDM. My favorite EDM artist at the moment are Heatbeat,Tritonal,Darude,Gareth Emery,Ferry Corsten and, Armin Van Buuren. My favorite tune of 2009 was Man On The Run – Dash Berlin with Cerf,Mitiska & Jaren.
Many people now-a-days love to say ”trance is dead”, I particular disagree, how do you feel about the scene these days, and about the music that’s being put out?
I think Trance is actually on a comeback. Mainstream radio is playing electro now, and more clubs are actually playing it as well. So I think trance is on the way back up which is great. I love to gain new listeners and fans who are new to trance as well. I have a radio show, the Buzz Podcast, on Kiss 95.7 FM in connecticut and it has definitely introduced a lot of new listeners in New England to the world of EDM.
You’ve done shows all over now, tell us what has been your favorite gig to date, and how do crowds vary from state to state or even country to country?
There are so many gigs that were amazing, its so hard to pick just one,so I will name a few this past year. Tiesto @ Tsongas Arena(6,000 people were there,it was insane! It was also Tiesto’s first Arena show in New England which I was honored to be part of!), ISTMO Music Fest(El Salvador),Perfecto @ Rain(Vegas). Here is a great video of the Vegas show. I will be traveling for my first time to Europe in December for Monday Bar Cruise so I’m sure that’s going to be a great experience. The crowds are always great, it’s amazing to see how many fans i really have. THANK YOU ALL!
Why do you think this music isn’t as big as it is in, for instance, Europe? Do you think we need some 50 Cent and Lil Wayne type beefs going, or getting some DJ’s to start dressing up like Lady Gaga before it gets some major exposure?
Hahah very good question. If you take a look at mainstream, it goes through transitions, like it is now. Hip Hop is dead, and pop and top 40 is hitting pretty good. EDM music is alway evolving, and I think some songs will cross over in the near future. One of my favorite ways to describe EDM music to people who dont know what it is,is this;Electronic Dance Music is like Soccer(Football), It’s big everywhere in the world except North America. Im trade marking that by the way. I think EDM needs more exposure on FM radio and other outlets and it will catch more with the average American.
Speaking of beefs, did you read about the Deadmau5 and Marcus Shossow deal, from a while ago? What did you think about that?
I try and stay away from all the politics of dancing as PVD calls it,so no comment.
Well Randy, Thank you for your time and we hope to hear some new tracks from you soon as well as see you at a show sometime soon!

With 44% of the votes is Tiesto Ft. Tegan & Sara “Feel It In My Bones”, who would ever thought that artists from such different genres would come together to make music? Who cares really, the music is a hit, and if you havent heard “Back In Your Head”, now is the time.
Next with 23% of the votes is Lange Ft. Sarah Howells “Let It All Out”. Lange has been putting out amazing trance records since his hit “I Believe” back in 2000. Spencer & Hill’s remix of Medina’s “You And I” took in 16%, Spencer & Hill seem to be popping up on every remix lately. The Above & Beyond Remix of DT8 Project’s “Destination” pulled in 11% of the votes while the Michael Badal remix of Niklas Harding & Kris O’neil’s “Saturn” collected 4%.
A special thank you goes out to everyone who voted for “Disarm” right from the horses mouth, Mr. Randy Boyer himself took the time out to email us and let us know how much he appreciated that. So, continue to vote the DJ’s are looking whos been naughty or nice! A little update about yesterday, we we’re suposed to check out Paul Van Dyk in Central Park but weather wasnt the greatest so those plans didnt pan through, later on in the day we were suposed to go to see Randy Boyer @ Love, but got stuck on the side of a highway for 3 hours, so our sights are set on the Electric Zoo now!

But its time to get down to business, time for some more good music, like my main man used to says, HAMMER TIME!. Let’s get to this weeks winner first. With 42% of your votes our winner for the week is the Randy Boyer remix of “Disarm” by The Smashing Pumpkins. This is hands down my favorite record right now, and definitely in the top 10 this year. TyDi’s & Dennis Sheperd’s track “Somehow” took in 25% of the votes, Can’t got wrong with this team, especially with Marcie doing the vocals.
Mike Candys & Jack Holiday rework of “Insomnia (Chris Crime Infinity Remix)” took third place with 16%, even though this is your typical electro track, I will never get sick of hearing that one little part, you know what I’m talking about so I wont get into it! Moonbeam & Tyler Michaud Ft Esmaye – Fantasize (Mat Zo Remix) is next up with 11% of the votes, try this track on your next night time highway drive, trust me, you wont be disappointed. Finally with 7% of the votes comes the Spektre Vocal remix of Fever Ray’s “Triangle Walks”.
Enjoy this week’s tunez, make sure you vote for your favorite. With that said, Spread the word about the website and come back daily for more great music!
